Men’s health and the money conversations worth having

Last year, 42%* of the cancer claims paid out by Chubb Life NZ were for men. It’s a reminder that men’s health matters, and that serious illness can come with challenges that stretch far beyond the doctor’s office.

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, and while most cancer discussions are better left to the health experts, there's an equally important conversation Advisers can be having right now with their customers.

We know that a diagnosis doesn't just affect someone's health. It affects their income, their mortgage, and their family's financial position, often all at the same time. Chubb LifeTrauma Cover (also known as Critical Illness Cover) exists to remove that financial pressure at exactly the moment it's least needed.

September is a good time to raise Trauma Cover with your customers, particularly those who may have paused their cover, are underinsured, or haven't reviewed their policy in a while. We're here to support your customers when it counts, and to support you in having the conversations that make that possible.

Derick's story

Derick's experience brings this to life. Diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, his Chubb Life policy paid out, allowing him to focus on recovery without the added weight of financial stress. It's the kind of story that reminds us of why we do what we do.

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

Prostate cancer is New Zealand's most commonly diagnosed cancer, aside from skin cancers. Every year, more than 4,000 men are diagnosed and over 700 die from the disease, the second-highest cause of cancer death in men, behind lung cancer.

The risk rises with age, and men with a father or brother who's had prostate cancer are at higher risk too. The encouraging news: most prostate cancers grow slowly, and when caught early, around 95% of men survive at least five years, and around 90% survive ten years or more beyond diagnosis.

Prostate cancer is survivable with early detection. But as with any serious illness, money is critical to having the time and emotional space to concentrate on treatment. Chubb Life Trauma Cover can provide that. So the conversations you have with your customers this Prostate Awareness Month could be almost as important as the conversation they have with their doctor.
