Lee Scarfe leads Chubb Life’s new business team, ensuring every customer’s onboarding experience is smooth, efficient and trustworthy. As the first point of contact after an Adviser submits an application, Lee’s team is responsible for guiding policies through the process, liaising with underwriters and advisers and making sure everything is set up correctly from the start.
“We keep the ship moving,” Lee says, describing his role as pivotal in the journey from application to policy issuance. Cycle time - the period it takes to process and issue a policy is a key metric for Lee’s team. Their focus is on speed, service and quality, striving to be better than competitors by getting policies “on the books” with care and passion.
With a decade of industry experience, Lee is passionate about onboarding new business. He believes the first impression is crucial, and his team works hard to build trust with Advisers, ensuring everything is right up front. “Trust is key,” he emphasises.
What makes the job interesting for Lee? The day-to-day variation. Whether it’s building relationships, working digitally, or chasing deadlines, no two days are the same. The drive to improve and do things better keeps him motivated. Success, for Lee, is measured by quality - getting it right the first time, conversion rates from applications to policies, and cycle times. He empowers his team to own and correct errors, fostering a culture of accountability.
If Lee wasn’t working at Chubb Life, he’d be pursuing his other passion: music. A talented guitarist, bassist, drummer and keyboard dabbler, Lee plays in the heavy metal band Forsaken Age, which is about to record its third album. His go-to song for getting through the workday? “Purple Rain”- the guitar work inspires him and music helps the office atmosphere.
Lee’s advice for Advisers wanting to get the most out of his team is simple: “If you want something, just ask. Pick up the phone - we are here to help.”
