Get to know Lauren Vazey

Senior Underwriter

What’s your role at Chubb Life and what does a typical day look like for you?

I’m a Senior Underwriter here at Chubb Life. A typical day for me includes assessing applications, reading medical notes, and reviewing financial accounts. I also regularly speak with customers and Advisers.

How did you get to where you are now?

I’ve been in life insurance since I left school, a very long time ago. I sort of just fell into it and have never left. I’ve worked in multiple different departments over the years and have ended up in Underwriting which I absolutely love.

What do you like most about your job?

A big part of my job is about getting creative, problem solving and finding solutions that serve our customers. It’s a constant challenge and something that I really enjoy.

I also love the people side. Working closely with all our awesome Advisers keeps things really fun. I love getting to know you all on a personal level as well. It brings plenty of spark and excitement to my day.

What your top tip to Advisers to make it easier to get their business assessed?

My top tip would is always remember to include a signed declaration and consent with your application.

That way if we need to request medical notes, we can do it immediately. The back and forth can hold us up, and we want to create a seamless, easy experience for you and your customers.

What’s something about your role that people might find surprising?

We get lots of fantastic opportunities to attend medical lectures by doctors and specialists. These allow us to upskill us on specific medical conditions, which really assists us with our job.

Personally, I find mental health fascinated and I’ve been fortunate to attend multiple lectures on this topic. The scope of mental health, and how it impacts our work, is so multifaceted and fascinating.

Chubb Life has a team of underwriters who are keeping the lights on over the holidays. Why is it important we do this for Advisers?

We need to keep the business flowing and keep on top of things so we can set ourselves up for the best year yet in 2026.

I will be working through the break so if anything crops up, feel free to reach out.

What do you like doing in your spare time?

I’m a big music fan. I love attending gigs. I also love going to Pilates, learning new things and spending time with friends and family, including my fur-baby son Samwise.

I recently bought a paddleboard, so I definitely want to do a lot of that this summer.

When I get around to having time off in 2026, I’m keen to visit friends in Melbourne and explore more of beautiful Aotearoa.

What are you most looking forward to in 2026?

2026 is going to be a huge year at Chubb Life. I’m excited to smash all our targets, get to know more Advisers and focus on my professional development.

Outside of work I’m looking forward to travelling, having fun and pushing myself to achieve my personal goals.

What’s your message to our Adviser community this Christmas?

2025 has been such a big year so I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Stay safe, look after each other, make sure you slip, slop, slap, and come back refreshed and ready to make 2026 our most legendary year yet.
