Client benefits

You and your loved ones can access the Client Benefits service at no extra cost to your policy premium when you have an eligible Chubb Life insurance policy. It’s all so you can access the support and professional advice when you need it.

What are client benefits?

These are additional benefits outside of your policy, providing a financial contribution towards pre-approved appointments and services for the policy owner(s), the lives assured and any dependent children.

Is there any eligibility criteria for Client Benefits?

You must be a policy owner or life assured, or a dependent child of a policy owner or a life assured, of an eligible in-force Chubb Life insurance policy to receive a Client Benefit.

The policy must have been in-force for a minimum of 90 days and the policy premiums must not be in arrears.

To be eligible, all services must be related to a life event or events and are only for use by the individual experiencing the life event.

Acceptance of an application for a Client Benefit is at Chubb Life’s discretion. Evidence may be required to confirm eligibility.

  • Wellness advice
  • Counselling services
  • Addiction services
  • General advice (legal, financial and employment)

Wellness advice

You can apply to receive specific nutritional advice or fitness advice from a registered practitioner.

 

A medical referral is required, and this referral should only contain information that relates to the condition which is the subject of the medical referral. No other condition/s should be included.

Counselling services

You can apply for counselling services in relation to, but not limited to, the following:

 

  • anxiety
  • depression
  • anger management
  • grief counselling
  • diagnosis of a serious illness or injury
  • stress
  • supporting children who have additional needs, and their parents (e.g. ADHD, autism, cerebral palsy)

Addiction assistance

You can apply for assistance with addiction to:

 

  • smoking

  • alcohol

  • gambling

  • drugs.

 

General assistance

You can apply for the following general assistance:

 

  • Legal assistance from a registered lawyer to:
    • prepare or update a will.
    • prepare or update a buy/sell agreement (Assurance Extra Business customers only).
  • Budgeting and small business financial advice (e.g. writing a business plan).
  • Employment related advice for CV, career counselling and interview preparation if you experience a career-related life event such as changing or losing a job.

Following a life event, Chubb Life may contribute up to $300 for a pre-approved appointment for wellbeing, career and budgeting advice services, and up to $1,000 towards legal services to prepare or update a will (or, for Assurance Extra Business customers, a buy/sell agreement).

Client Benefits are limited to a maximum of $1,000 (including GST) per policy year:

  • across all eligible individuals,
  • across all related eligible Chubb Life policies (including eligible policies distributed by third parties).

Client Benefits requests must be pre-approved, which will be provided at Chubb Life’s sole discretion.

Any Client Benefits must be applied for and the services used within 13 months of the life event occurring.

No. The yearly $1,000 Client Benefit allocation will begin each year on your policy anniversary date, and pre-approval for services must be sought first. If you have more than one policy eligible for Client Benefits (including eligible policies distributed by third parties), it will begin from the anniversary date of your first eligible policy.

Any unused yearly Client Benefit allocation does not carry over to following years.

If you've already received payment under the Financial and Legal Advice Benefit or Grief Counselling Benefit as a benefit under any Chubb Life policy, you will not be eligible to receive a further payment for financial or legal advice, or grief counselling under Client Benefits in the same policy year.

Each of the policy owner(s), the lives assured and/or a dependent child of a policy owner or a life assured are entitled to the Client Benefits.

A life event is defined as an event resulting in a substantial change and adjustment to an individual’s life. This includes, but is not limited to: marriage, divorce, serious illness or injury, diagnosis of neurodivergence, purchasing a property, changing or losing a job, starting or restructuring a business, the birth of their child, being a victim of a criminal act, and natural disasters.

Chubb Life may require you to provide evidence of a life event related to the Client Benefit you’re requesting.

Yes, but the provider must be a registered practitioner, approved by Chubb Life, GST registered and based in New Zealand.

How it works:

Approval and invoicing

  • The services must be pre-approved by Chubb Life before the service is provided.
  • Approval is at Chubb Life’s discretion. Some services (as noted above) require a medical referral.
  • Once pre-approved, you’re responsible for making the appointment and providing Chubb Life with a GST invoice for the service.  Invoices must be made out to Chubb Life Insurance NZ and include a reference to the individual’s name, policy number and service received.
  • Service providers will be paid directly by Chubb Life. Chubb Life is unable to pay the customer for services sought.
  • Chubb Life will not pay costs relating to missed appointments or appointments cancelled outside of the service provider’s required timeframe.

Other important information

  • Chubb Life reserves the right to change, remove or add coverage for the services available under the Client Benefits without notice.
  • Chubb Life won't be liable for any loss (including, without limitation, indirect, special or consequential loss or loss of profits), expense, damage, personal injury or death which is suffered or sustained (whether or not arising from any person’s negligence) in connection with the services offered by the providers of these benefits or accepting or using any advice or service by any recipient, except for any liability which cannot be excluded by law (in which case that liability is limited to the minimum allowable by law).
