Get to know Erica Stevens

Southern Adviser

Before joining the Southern Adviser team, many of you will have known Erica given she spent nine years agri-banking at ANZ in Southland. Her extensive banking background and relationships within the ANZ team put her is a great position to help convert referrals and help New Zealanders get protected.

What’s your background and how did you get to where you are now?

I had the privilege of growing up on a farm in Southland and studied Marketing and Accounting at Otago. Before joining Chubb Life, I had a great nine years Agri-banking at ANZ in Southland. I missed having constantly overdue training courses on maternity leave, so managed to stumble through my Level 5 to fill the void. The plan was to possibly attempt an Adviser role once my young family were a bit older, but it came around sooner than expected, and I began working as an Insurance Adviser late January.

What’s your first impression been of Chubb Life?

My Chubb Life team-mates continue to pick up my relentless phone calls, which speaks volumes of the high-quality resilient team. I am very lucky to be surrounded by experienced and knowledgeable Advisers who have gone above and beyond to help me. Chubb Life is also focused on improvement, doing what it can to make things better for its people and customers.

Why do you think advice is so important?

Everybody’s situation and goals are unique to them and their family. As an Adviser, you get to utilise your knowledge and experience to help them make the best decisions for themselves, their family and their business.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

My wholesome gorgeous grandad (who’s turning 97 in a few months) shared the wisdom that everyone has a struggle – be kind.

Tell us about your family/pets

My partner, Brook, and I live on his family sheep and beef farm in Dipton, Southland. We have three beautiful children – Koa (5), Tui (2) and Rocky (1). The state of our house is consistently sub-par.

What do you like to get up to outside of work?

Given the sedate occupation – movement is key. Squash is a fabulous adult sport – short and sharp exercise, very social and if you lose you win with a free drink. I’m very proud of my wee girl who started playing sport, and I can’t wait to coach her very cute Rippa Rugby team this year. I also have a passion for a bit of renovation and DIY, with a “near enough is good enough” approach.

What are you watching right now?

I don’t quite manage the time for a good series, but I do try to get in a nightly read. My favourite book is “I Am Pilgrim” so if anyone has recommendations based on this, I’m all ears.
