Amazing things to do in Phuket

Phuket is one of the most popular travel destinations in Thailand. A beach paradise, it is often visited by tourists from all over the globe, thanks to its pristine waters and white sandy shores. It was even featured in a movie starring Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio.

But while the name Phuket has become synonymous to beaches, this island has a lot more things to offer. And if you have already had your dose of “Vitamin Sea,” then you should check out these equally amazing activities that you can do while you are there!

1. Chill with the tigers

One major tourist attraction that you can find on the island is the Phuket Tiger Kingdom. This sanctuary is home to Indochinese tigers that were raised in captivity, thus they are more approachable and friendlier to humans. You can actually sit beside one in the cage and have your photo taken (no selfies are allowed, though) by the resident photographer.

The sanctuary also hosts two restaurants. Have lunch or dinner while watching the tigers play.

2. Cook Phuket cuisine

Phuket is also known for its gastronomic prowess, and this is the best place to be in when you want to learn to cook Thai cuisine. There are a lot of local cooking classes on the island that offer basic and advanced sessions to aspiring cooks. You may want to take advantage of these during your vacation.

During the cooking classes, you will enjoy the hands-on experience in cooking Thai dishes. The trainer chefs will also impart their knowledge of the ingredients used to make the food uniquely scrumptious. A visit to a local market to teach you how to select them can be included.

3. Get a scenic view

If you want to view the scenic Phuket beaches from afar, then you should take a hike to Karon View Point. This famous viewpoint is usually flocked by tourists thanks to its picturesque view of the blue Andaman Sea and the crisp white sandy shores.

The Karon View Point is best visited at dawn and just before sunset, although you have to find a spot that’s not as crowded as the main view deck. As you will be hiking, be mindful of the journey as sturdy shoes are highly recommended to avoid falls or slips.

4. Get to know Buddha at Wat Chalong

Buddhism is the main religion practised in Thailand, and Phuket is no exception. You will find Wat Chalong, a Buddhist compound that celebrates Buddha’s life and his journey to spiritual enlightenment.

Inside the Wat Chalong, you will find the Poh Jao Wat, which serves as the house of two elderly men, Ta Khee-Lek and Nonsi. They are locals whose lives have changed because of their dedication to the Buddhist faith.

Wat Chalong also has a pagoda that is famous for bearing a small splinter from the bone of Buddha himself, as well as various images of Buddha, including portraits of his life story.

5. Taste the locally brewed Chalong Bay Rum

Meanwhile, if you want to taste how the locals brew their signature rum, then it is worth visiting the Chalong Bay Rum Distillery. The company is known for its high quality white rum which is fast becoming famous around the globe. The distillery also offers tours, so you are able to witness how the rum is made from start to finish. The tour ends in a cocktail workshop where you can do your own concoctions using Chalong Bay Rum.

If you are planning to go to Phuket anytime soon, then it is best to secure travel insurance to get the most out of your vacation. This way, you won’t have to worry about additional expenses arising from unexpected situations during your trip.
