For 23 consecutive years, Chubb has sponsored The Winter Show, a leading art, antiques, and design fair in the U.S., featuring 70 of the world’s top experts in fine and decorative arts. Held at the historic Park Avenue Armory in New York City, The Winter Show highlights a dynamic mix of art and objects spanning 5,000 years from antiquities through contemporary art, jewelry, and design. It is also one of the few art fairs that is owned by and supports the efforts of a local charity – the East Side House Settlement. A Bronx-based social services organization, East Side House Settlement provides education, home, and job support for young adults in New York’s inner city, helping them get out of poverty and into the economic mainstream.
As a presenting sponsor of The Winter Show and a leading expert in protecting and insuring art, jewelry and other valuables, Chubb was proud to host a number of client receptions and a panel discussion with leading jewelry experts, titled “The Holy Grails of Jewelry Collecting.” In addition, our Fine Art and Jewelry team attended The Winter Show to connect with dealers and meet with clients.
Hosted by Town & Country’s Editor in Chief, Stellene Volandes, the jewelry panel included the following experts: Levi Higgs, archivist and social media manager at David Webb; Carrie Imberman of Kentshire; and Lee Siegelson of Seigelson. While each panelist had his or her own opinion about what would be considered a “Holy Grail” jewelry item and why, they all agreed that items that show remarkable workmanship, provenance, and art quality were on the top of their lists. These included pieces that marked a moment in history, standouts from the 20th century, and pieces from iconic designers such as Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, JAR, Emmanuel Tarpin, Daniel Brush, Lauren B, and Marilyn Cooperman.
Chubb’s jewelry team stays on top of the latest trends by following leading designers and jewelry specialists, and attending auctions, trade shows, and fairs like The Winter Show.
