If you live in an area that is prone to wildfires, you may want to consider going an extra step to protect your home and property from fire damage. One way you can do this is through a company called Wildfire Defense Systems (WDS). Through our Wildfire Defense Service, their professional fire prevention and suppression services are available to Chubb homeowner policyholders in eligible states – for no additional cost.

  1. Identify preventive measures you can take
A WDS residential loss control team may come to your home and point out things you can do to prevent fire damage, such as installing water tanks and planning a “defensive space” around the main structure so that the fire can’t come too close to your home.

  2. Extinguish spot fires on location
If there’s an imminent threat of wildfires close to your home, we may deploy certified professional firefighters to assess the threat, keep you informed, and extinguish spot fires.

  3. Spray Thermo-Gel on your home
As a last line of defense, in some cases, highly-trained WDS firefighters will spray Thermo-Gel on your home and structures to protect them from fire and combustion for several hours. The gel is environmentally safe and can be used on all types of trees and vegetation as well.

One more thing to note: House fires often start from embers, not flames.

“Embers are the primary cause of structure loss in these situations,” says David Torgerson, president of WDS. “It’s not common thinking, but flames pass over a house in a minute or two. Houses burn from the inside out due to embers.” Often spread by high wind, embers can land on combustible materials such as landscaping or nearby structures, then spread to the home. But, with WDS, we can help protect your home in the midst of a fire threat.
