Chubb was founded just 30 years ago.

Since then, we’ve dramatically developed our offering, the range of customers we serve and our reach across the world. Today, our global footprint spans 54 countries.

We employ 1,400 people in the UK and Ireland alone, and serve over 12 million customers across Europe, Eurasia & Africa.

Here are key milestones we reached along the way.

  • 1985

A capacity crisis emerged within the US insurance marketplace for excess liability insurance. Recognising the customer need, a number of pioneers help to pool capital and create a new insurance company. In a hotel room in Bermuda, Chubb is born.

  • 1993

We complete our initial public offering and are authorised for listing and to trade on the New York Stock Exchange.

  • 1994

    Chubb arrives in London.

  • 1996

We grow in size and offering in London, acquiring Lloyd's managing agency Ockham Worldwide and Methuen Underwriting.

  • 1998

Chubb Global Markets is born from our wholesale operation at Lloyd's. We also acquire Lloyd's-based Tarquin Limited.

  • 1999

We acquire the global property and casualty business CIGNA Corporation for $3.5 billion, making us one of only a handful of truly international property and casualty insurance companies. With this acquisition, we also inherit the rich history of pioneering Insurance Company of North America – who wrote their first policy in 1792.

  • 2005

Regulatory approvals granted to expand our Commercial Property and Casualty Insurance offering to Poland.

  • 2007

New offices for Chubb open in Hungary and Czech Republic.

  • 2014

Eurasia and Africa region is launched.
