FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Chubb Forms Alliance with 100 Black Men of America, Inc. Warren, N.J., May 6, 1999 -- The Chubb Group of Insurance Companies has formed a business alliance with the 100 Black Men of America, Inc., the nation's leading organization of African-American men of business, industry, public affairs and government, dedicated to confronting the challenges facing African-American youth. Chubb's business alliance with 100 Black Men of America includes financial support and joint marketing efforts. Chubb will provide $265,000 in cash and in-kind services to assist the 100 Black Men of America in its education, youth mentoring, anti-violence and economic development programs. "Chubb is committed to helping the African-American community both for philanthropic reasons and because we recognize that the business of the future is all about diversity," said Sylvester Green, executive vice president of Chubb & Son, responsible for its U.S. field operations. "Chubb believes in 100 Black Men’s approach of helping educate and mentor individuals to enable them to better control their futures. And we want to do what we can to help the organization achieve its goals." Thomas W. Dortch, Jr., national president of 100 Black Men Inc., said of this new alliance: "100 Black Men of America is taking the lead in forging our community’s financial destiny. Chubb’s contribution will help enable us to strengthen our health and wellness and economic empowerment programs." In addition to charitable contributions, Chubb’s local branch offices will work with the organization’s various local chapters to focus on regional issues. 100 Pentium computers are being donated to the group for use in the youth educational programs it sponsors. In addition, Chubb is exploring future initiatives involving the 100 Black Men of America group, including scholarships, internships and recruitment for employment. Joseph Moore of JLM Risk Management Group of Atlanta will coordinate an insurance program underwritten by Chubb’s member insurers and available to members of 100 Black Men of America. He will also facilitate the integration of the business alliance. Moore was responsible for linking Chubb with 100 Black Men of America. He said, "I had been looking for ways that the insurance industry could help the 100 Black Men of America. Because the organization consists of the country's most prominent and influential African-American leaders, I felt that Chubb is the insurer with the best fit due to its product offerings, reputation, financial ratings and service standards." Member insurers of the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies form a multi-billion dollar organization providing property and casualty insurance for personal and commercial customers worldwide through 5,000 independent agents and brokers. Chubb's global network includes branches and affiliates throughout North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Australia. 100 Black Men was first established by a group in New York in 1963 and subsequent chapters sprang up until the individual chapters formed the national body called 100 Black Men of America Inc. in 1986. In 1995, the organization launched an aggressive plan to address four areas deemed critical to ensuring the future of the community. These four areas include youth mentoring, anti-violence, education and economic development programs. JLM Risk Management Group is a consortium of risk and insurance specialists offering an array of risk management services and insurance programs to a diverse group of customers. In addition to specialty, standard and personal insurance, JLM offers risk management consultation and audit, loss control, claims management and personal client services.
