Motor Accident Claim
Claims

In the event of a motor accident:

  1. Keep calm and move to a safe place. Together with the other driver, complete Part I of the Singapore Accident Statement (SAS) at the scene of the accident. Instructions for completion of the statement can be found at the back cover of SAS as well as “How to fill in the Singapore Accident Statement” brochure.
  2. This statement is not an admission of blame or liability. It is intended to provide accurate and timely information about the accident. If either party disagrees with the other driver’s version of events, simply indicate in Section 14 of SAS Part I. Completion of this form by both parties will help expedite claim processing and settlement.
  3. If the other party refuses to complete the SAS, obtain details of other driver involved (vehicle registration number, name and address of third party insurance company) and fill in your side of the statement.
  4. If there are witnesses, it is important to note down their names and contact details.
  5. If possible, take photographs at the scene of the accident.
  6. Do not attempt to move the vehicles if anyone involved in the motor accident is injured. Do this only after the police have cleared the accident scene.
  7. You are required to take your vehicle to an Idac* for damage assessment after filling in the SAS Part I and II.
  8. You are not required to lodge a police report except for injury cases and non-injury cases involving the following:
    • Government vehicle or damage to government property
    • Foreign vehicle
    • Pedestrian or cyclist
  9. Call the Idac hotline number 1800 887 5151 to find the nearest Idac. A tow truck will be dispatched if needed and both you and your vehicle need to go to Idac. You will not be charged for Idac’s services.
  10. After visiting Idac, arrange for your vehicle to be sent to one of our authorised workshops or your own designated workshop. Inform the workshop to contact Federal Insurance Company to arrange for survey of the damaged vehicle once the repair quotation is ready.
  11. For windscreen damage, SAS and visit to Idac are not required. Contact any one of our authorised workshops or your designated workshop and arrange for the repair estimate and our Motor Windscreen claim form duly completed to be faxed to us. We will contact the workshop to verify repair costs and authorise repair.

* Idac refers to Independent Damage Assessment Centres established by The General Insurance Association of Singapore (GIA).
