Chubb Supports Student and Emerging Filmmakers Through Key Alliance and Scholarship
WARREN, NJ, August 25, 2008 - The Chubb Group of Insurance Companies has formed an alliance with the Council on International Nontheatrical Events (CINE)
to support student and emerging filmmakers.
As part of the alliance, Chubb established a scholarship for the 2007 and 2008 winners of the CINE Award of Excellence for
the Student Division. The scholarship, which included a $1,500 cash award and $2,000 in legal fees to help defray the costs
associated with rights clearance, was presented at CINE's 2008 Awards Ceremony in Washington, D.C.
"Chubb's alliance with CINE and the student filmmaker scholarship help to demonstrate our deep commitment to the future of
filmmaking," said Gene Williams, vice president of Chubb & Son and worldwide entertainment manager for Chubb Commercial Insurance.
"The legal services are particularly useful, because film students are often so focused on the artistic side of making a film
that they do not anticipate the potential legal pitfalls."
Wendy Revel, CINE executive director, said she is delighted that Chubb has taken such a strong interest in student and emerging
filmmakers. "Chubb has long been an advocate for the film industry, so this alliance creates a strong synergy," she said.
Chubb has been underwriting film productions for more than 40 years, including feature films, documentaries, television productions,
commercials, music videos and educational films. Chubb's new Film Producers Risk policy was developed to address the enormous
advances in filmmaking during the past decade. The policy helps pay for the additional costs to complete a production when
it is interrupted or has to be re-shot as a result of specific causes. Unlike traditional film policies, which insure certain
losses only through principal photography, Chubb's policy extends protection through post production.
About CINE Established in 1957, CINE's mission is to serve emerging and established film, video and new media professionals as their
primary career-advancing peer group. Washington, D.C.-based CINE honors a wide range of talent worldwide through the coveted
CINE Golden Eagle Awards and provides ongoing opportunities for education, exposure, networking and resources.
