Chubb Named One of the Best Companies for Gay and Transgender Employees

--Attains Highest Score Possible on Corporate Equality Index--

WARREN, NJ, September 29, 2006—The Chubb Corporation attained the highest score possible (100 percent) on the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation 2006 annual report card on corporate America’s treatment of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) employees.  This is the fourth consecutive year that Chubb has received a 100 percent rating.

“Just as we take pride in our outstanding business results, we are proud that the Human Rights Campaign has recognized Chubb as a company that treats its employees fairly and with dignity and respect,” said John D. Finnegan, chairman, president and CEO, The Chubb Corporation.  “We will continue to be guided by the belief that Chubb’s success rests largely on our ability to create an inclusive work environment that motivates all employees to reach their full potential to contribute to results.”

“This year, more major American businesses received a perfect rating for equality and fairness than in any other year,” said Joe Solmonese, president for the Human Rights Campaign.  “At an ever increasing pace, corporate executives understand that supporting their gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees is not only the right thing to do but it is also good for business.  The findings in this years’ report sends a clear message that the American workplace is rapidly becoming more inclusive of diversity.”

The HRC’s Corporate Equality Index is based on a survey sent to the Fortune 1000, the Standard & Poor’s 500, Forbes’ list of the 200 largest privately held firms, the American Lawyer 100, and any company with at least 500 employees that asks to be rated or for which HRC has enough information to derive a score. Companies are rated on a scale from 0 to 100 percent on several key indicators of fair treatment for GLBT employees.  Indicators include policies prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity and health care benefits for employees’ partners.  The 2006 report rates 446 companies; 138 companies scored 100 percent.

The Human Rights Campaign is the largest national lesbian and gay political organization with members throughout the country.  It lobbies Congress, supports political campaigns and educates the public on GLBT issues.

The member insurers of the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies form a multi-billion dollar organization providing property and casualty insurance for personal and commercial customers worldwide through 8,000 independent agents and brokers. Chubb's global network includes branches and affiliates throughout North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia and Australia.
