Chubb Women to Mentor Collegiate Women of Color
Warren, NJ, August 10, 2006 - Fourteen women from the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies will mentor 14 college seniors participating
in the Collegiate Women of Color Leadership Development Institute. Sponsored by the Foundation for Independent Higher Learning,
the year-long program identifies campus leaders among women of color enrolled in colleges across the nation and helps prepare
them for future leadership roles.
"Chubb is proud to support women of color through the Collegiate Women of Color Leadership Development Institute," said Kathy
Marvel, senior vice president and chief diversity officer for Chubb. "Women of color still lag behind other groups, including
men of color, in terms of ascending to more senior-level corporate positions. Our participation in the institute provides
Chubb's women with an opportunity to share their leadership skills and help give these college seniors a 'jump start' up the
corporate ladder."
"We are pleased to partner with Chubb to make the Collegiate Women of Color Leadership Development Institute a robust and
meaningful experience for many of its participants," said Dr. Algeania Warren Freeman, founder and project director for the
Collegiate Women of Color Leadership Development Institute. "Our goal is to better prepare women of color to be tomorrow's
leaders in corporations, government and non-profit organizations. Chubb has chosen its best and brightest to mentor these
college seniors, and we are confident that they will play a major role in the program's success."
Student participants will be engaged in a rigorous leadership development program at the Mt. Washington Conference Center
in Baltimore on August 10-13, 2006. Speakers will address several topics related to leadership. The students also will be
expected to undertake leadership projects at their college or in the neighboring community during their senior year. A stipend
of $2,500 will help each student fund their project. Chubb's mentors will meet their student mentees during the Baltimore
program and continue regular contact with the student throughout the program.
Students were selected for the program based on academic record, leadership achievements, letters of reference and an essay.
Chubb mentors were selected to participate based on their leadership achievements in the company and their communities.
