Chubb Establishes $1 Million Fund for Hurricane Katrina Disaster Relief Efforts
WARREN, NJ, September 6, 2005 – The Chubb Corporation [NYSE:CB] has established a $1 million fund for disaster-relief efforts
related to Hurricane Katrina.
Chubb will contribute $500,000 directly to disaster-relief organizations. In addition, the insurer will match employee contributions
to relief organizations on a two-for-one basis, up to $500,000. If employee donations total more than $500,000, Chubb will
continue to match those dollars on a one-for-one basis.
Chubb also has announced a voluntary, temporary moratorium on canceling and non-renewing personal and commercial insurance
policies in areas of Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi most severely affected by the hurricane. The moratorium will remain
in effect until at least November 1.
“We are saddened by the loss of life and property in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama,” said John D. Finnegan, chairman
and CEO of Chubb. “We will do everything we can to help our policyholders and fellow citizens put their lives back together.”
Last week, Chubb announced that it was providing its policyholders with alternate means of reporting claims in the event they
are unable to reach an agent or broker affected by the hurricane. Personal insurance policyholders may call the Chubb Customer
Center at 1-800-777-2131. The center’s licensed insurance agents can assist them with claims, policy changes and questions
until the agents and brokers can resume their regular business operations. The center's operating hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday (Eastern Time).
During the same hours Central Time, commercial policyholders who cannot contact their agent or broker may call Chubb’s Houston
office at 1-800-766-6395 or 1-713-297-4600.
Personal and commercial insurance policyholders may also report claims any time via telephone to 1-800-CLAIMS-0 (1-800-252-4670)
or on the Internet at www.chubb.com.
Founded in 1882, Chubb is one of the world’s premier property and casualty insurers, with 11,800 employees serving customer
in more than 120 offices in North America, South America, Europe and Asia.
