New Chubb Tools Help Not-for-Profit Organizations Manage Employee Lawsuit Exposure
WARREN, NJ, March 30, 2005 -- Not-for-profit organizations that have employment practices liability (EPL) coverage with the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies
have access to a full suite of loss prevention services to help reduce their exposure to employee lawsuits.
Chubb has enhanced its loss prevention services, giving not-for-profit organizations access to:
-
ChubbWorksSM, a Web site that provides Chubb customers and insurance agents access to a variety of loss prevention tools at no charge.
-
Toll-Free Hotline - At no charge, puts Chubb customers in direct contact with employment practices experts from a nationally recognized law
firm. An unlimited number of calls can be made to obtain answers to EPL questions or receive immediate advice the moment
a precarious situation arises.
-
Loss Prevention Consultant Services - A network of over 120 top law firms, human resources consulting firms, and labor economist statisticians who can help not-for-profit
organizations address specific employment issues. Chubb customers can hire these firms at preferred rates, with Chubb reimbursing
for a portion of the cost of services related to their employment practices coverage.
Some of the valuable tools available through ChubbWorksSM (www.chubbworks.com) include:
-
Model employment policies, procedures and forms;
-
Employment practices self-audit checklists for human resources professionals, executive management, and supervisors;
-
On-line training for managers and supervisors on sexual harassment, discrimination, and wrongful termination; and
-
A library offering links to governmental information resources, as well to publications covering such topics as EPL case law,
loss prevention, health and wellness, workplace leadership, and workplace news.
"Chubb's enhanced loss prevention services offer access to information, tools, and services that can be critical to not-for-profit
organizations, especially those that do not necessarily have the internal resources or expertise to handle complicated EPL
matters," said Michael Schraer, not-for-profit product manager for Chubb Specialty Insurance. "It is now easier for our customers
to obtain the resources they need to help prevent costly employee lawsuits."
Not-for-profit organizations have become increasingly vulnerable to employee lawsuits. According to Tillinghast-Towers Perrin's
2004 Directors and Officers Liability Survey, 96% of the D&O claims against nonprofit organizations were brought by employees, while only 23% of claims against public
companies were brought by employees. Of those employee claims against nonprofits, 36% were for discrimination and 21% were
for wrongful termination, according to the Tillinghast survey.
Chubb's not-for-profit customers also receive a copy of Chubb's Employment Practices Liability Loss Prevention Guidelines for Not-for-Profit Organizations manual and can view CheckPoint, a Chubb newsletter written by employment practices experts, on-line.
